To be or not to be….

To whom it may concern or aggrieve,

The topic of vaccination at this time has been phenomenally controversial. It is one that as much as I try I cannot escape.

It follows with relentless obsession. It follows to the supermarket, on my walks with friends, to the butcher, at the dinner table…exposing any place of exchange and connection. No place is untouched by the conversation.

It is passionately voiced with almost god like reverence. Adored and clutched to with hope and conviction of it being our kryptonite to the madness of life being experienced with COVID19.

We are exhausted, hopeless, insecure, and vulnerable. However, my lens of late have been more than these adjectives.

I notice division, judgement, and STILL a fear of others. I notice sadness and intolerance. I notice alarming concepts and similarities of past lessons unlearnt. Unnerving me…

The concept that the vaccine will create groups of the “Haves” and the “Have Nots” horrifies me. Alarmingly invoking the horrifying past of family in WWII being labelled and cast.

Furthermore, the notion of “Pro Choice” becoming complicated astounds me. How did ones belief and value trump another ? When did we as a collective believe that “My” and “I” is more distinguished than the unspecified individual? More disconcerting to me, when did the everyday citizen or leader accredit the right to believe “their” way is the only way?

And beyond this, vaccination becoming a currency feels intimidating. The prospect of it being used as a converter for power and choice will undoubtedly divide our nation and others into a class system that can only lead to more divide.

How did we get here? When did the notion and belief that there is 7.9 billion ways of valuing and “doing” life cease to exist?

Don’t mistake me. I do not have a firm attitude or belief on being pro or anti this vaccine. I deter and defer controversy. It is not my concern what one chooses, nor is it my business.

The intimation for myself, my husband and my 2 boys is clear. Do your own reading, obtain information and then make a choice that sits right for yourself and your own body. Comprehend the pros, cons and consequences for your decision and move forward in your own authority and sovereignty.

At the moment, The Black Eyed Peas 2003 hit “Where is the Love” plays on repeat in my head.

Their sentiment of “ Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love we’re spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity” is all embracing and encompassing for me at the moment.

What I believe and know for sure, is that through all the confusion, noise and opinions human kindness, non-judgement and acceptance will be the ascendance for dominating this situation.

Maybe even becoming our kryptonite and antidote for this confusing plight we are all collectively living in.

Sending love to all I share this beautiful planet with…..vaccinated or not,

Galit xxx
